TRC summer series round 3 results

Thanks to all the helpers and riders for making it a great event

Thanet RC Evening “10” – 4th August 2021

The weather was much improved for this week’s evening time trial at Betteshanger CP. It was warm but with a steady breeze from the east.. The better conditions resulted in better times after the struggles of the previous week.

We had a field of 9 juniors and 25 seniors take to the start line, but two senior riders failed to finish due to bike issues.

Toby Clayson of VC Deal was the quickest junior with 26.24, while Ferne Peirce was both fastest girl and fastest Thanet RC first claim member. Ferne was second in a time of 27.24. Dougie Tulett came in third and was fastest Thanet RC boy with 28.10. I believe that William Tulett may have improved his PB with 29.32?

Lewis Tompsett recorded a fine time of 20.17 for top spot, some way ahead of 2nd place rider, Neil Gerrard (22.03). Faye Faiers took the position of quickest woman with 26.41.

All times can be seen in the PDF files.

Thanks to our helpers; Terry Fearn, Malcolm Adams, Steve Wright, Paul Griffiths, Andy McCall and Dave Mastin.

Safety Note: When re-joining the main circuit after having finished your ride, please be aware of riders that are still racing.

Thanet RC Evening “10” – 28/07/21

The latest evening 10 mile time trial at Betteshanger CP was held in challenging conditions. It was cool, but the main issue was a very strong headwind facing the riders as they rode down the main straight.

32 riders signed on but we had two non-finishers, giving 10 juniors and 20 seniors who battled round and recorded a time As expected, times were some way off those posted in recent weeks in better conditions.

Alex Dack headed the times of the junior riders with 27.02, while Ferne Peirce was fastest girl in a time of 28.56, which gave her 4th place.

At the top of the times for senior riders was Neil Gerrard of Folkestone VC with 22.27. Sharing second place with a time of 23.46 were the fastest Thanet RC riders, Paul Reid and Simom Henderson. We only had one woman finish this week, which was VC Deal’s Jo Van Velzen who recorded a time of 29.39.

Times of all riders are in the attached PDFs.

Thanks as always to this week’s band of helpers; Jenny & Terry Fearn, Malcolm Adams, Paul Griffiths, Andy McCall and Dave Mastin.

TRC Evening “10” – 21/07/21 – Road Bikes.

This week, we held the time trial at Betteshanger on road bikes only. For some, it was time to put the TT bike away, while a number of riders have always been on road bikes this season.

The weather was good, warm but with a breeze for the 37 riders that signed on. Over one third of the field was made up with junior riders, many of whom posted improved times and PB’s.

Alex Dack was the fastest junior with a time of 25.49, which would have placed him ninth in the senior field. In third place and fastest girl was Ferne Peirce in 27.55. Making his first appearance at one of our events was 10 year old Seb Mugford. Well done to all the juniors!

Top of the senior times, and riding his first Betteshanger evening "10" was Paul Burrows who got round in a time of 22.42. Tanya Scott was fastest woman in a fine 25.10, which was seventh overall.

All times can be found in the attached files.

Our thanks go to our helpers this week, especially Paul Griffiths, who was have a go at time keeping. Other helpers were Simon Henderson, Andy McCall, Malcolm Adams and Dave Mastin.

TRC Evening “10” – 14/07/21

This week, it was back to the regular 10 mile time trials at Betteshanger. The weather was warm but there was also quite a stiff breeze to overcome.

We had a reduced field of 32 riders, after several withdrawals due to illness, injury and the need to self-isolate. The junior section consisted of 10 riders, with 22 seniors also competing.

Our quickest junior was VC Deal’s Toby Clayson with a fine 25.48, while second place went to the first of the TRC boys, which was Alex Dack, whose time was 26.03. With a time of 27.54, Ferne Peirce was first girl in fourth place overall. I believe there were at least two PBs, for Dougie Tulett and Lawson Bax, and possibly one for Nina Reid too?

Top spot amongst the seniors went to Lewis Tompsett who recorded an excellent time of 20.19. Making her first appearance at one of our evening 10’s was Jenny Benson (VC Deal) who also claimed the best time for a woman rider with 26.34. Faye Faiers was fastest TRC woman with 27.01.

Times for all riders are in the attached files.

Thanks to our helpers this week, David Tulett, Andy McCall, Terry Fearn and Dave Mastin.

The next event on 21st July is a road bike time trial over 10 miles. Details to be published with the regular "invitation to enter".

RTTC National 24 hour Championships

Matt Seward and Rob Milnes from TRC are both entered in the RTTC National 24 hour Championships on Saturday 17th July 2021.

They start around 14:00 on Saturday and will be riding for 24 hours as part of a field of 75 riders in Merseyside.

I am sure everyone in the club will be supporting them both.

They will be completing with Michael Broadwith and Michael Schubert amongst others.

Staying on a bike for 24 hours – how do they do it?

‘They just do’- thanks to David Greenwood from Rye Wheelers for the quote. He is also riding.

I am sure they will be letting us know how it goes and how many miles they cover.

Here is a link for the event.

Have an enjoyable and safe ride everyone.
